Julian
After catching each other’s eye at a concert, Fleur and Julian fall madly in love. When Julian soon proposes, Fleur, a journalist, devises an ambitious plan to get married in all the countries where they, as two women, are legally allowed. From Brussels to New York, each ceremony becomes a jubilant act of optimism and a defiant protest against inequality – until a devastating revelation painfully interrupts their plans. Based on Fleur Pierets’ 2023 memoir Julian and produced by Lukas Dhont (Close, Sydney Film Prize 2022), Cato Kusters’ debut feature is an emphatic declaration of queer love, directed with immense sensitivity. Selected for Toronto and winner of five Flemish Film Awards, including Best Film.
