SFF and Dendy present the NSW Premiere of the latest from Park Chan-wook, the mastermind behind The Handmaiden (SFF 2016) and Oldboy (SFF 2022). Here he delivers another stylish, bloody gut-punch in this devilish satire of contemporary capitalism. Venice Competition contender and Toronto’s 2025 International People’s Choice Winner.

Lee Byung-hun (Joint Security Area, A Bittersweet Life, Squid Game), stars as down-on-his-luck You Man-su, a doting family man and proud breadwinner. That is, until the termination from his job managing a paper factory after 20 years. Man-su’s experience in paper is niche and with ever advancing technology the jobs in the field are scarce. When a position opens up at one of the remaining lucrative paper companies, and along with increasing financial strain and pressure from wife, Miri (Son Ye-jin) and his two kids, Man-su has “no other choice” but to eliminate the competition. What follows is a gruesome and twisted comedy of errors that spirals out of control. Bombastic and outrageous, No Other Choice is just as sumptuous as Park’s previous films, is ripe with present day commentary and a welcome entry to his celebrated oeuvre.
