Strawberries
Hasna (Nisrin Erradi) joins a queue of Moroccan women bound for the strawberry picking season in Andalucia, Spain. What she'd hoped would be fair, honest work turns out to be a hotbed of exploitation. The mostly female migrant workers face harsh conditions, dilapidated lodgings, and most horrifyingly, employers who sexually abuse them. Hasna, a former taekwondo champ who refuses to endure their harassment, forms a tight bond with the other women. Together, they must decide whether to rise up or stay silent to protect their livelihoods. Based on real-life reports, Moroccan director Laïla Marrakchi's (Rock the Casbah, SFF 2014) Strawberries is a realist drama about unacceptable practices and the power of solidarity.
